Your Executive Committee continues to try and increase the benefits we receive as members of Charleston Yacht Club. In September, we finished the new elevated deck behind the Flag Room. Thanks not only to our House Committee Chair Russ Smith, who worked tirelessly as a volunteer on this project, but also members such as past House Committee Chair Van Kinnett and two time Past Commodore Brian Swan who served as the contractors on the project. And to the many volunteers that helped with odd jobs and painting – we could not have completed the project on time and under budget without YOU. A big club thank you to Past Commodore Paul Jacques, Joe Wilson, Dalton Worthington, Rick Blanchard, Gay Slough, and to all that picked up a paint brush or a hammer. Please forgive me if I missed anyone…there were so many.  What a great dilemma!

Howard Blackburn, a longtime and dedicated member of Charleston Yacht Club, has agreed to supply the funding for the French Doors we will install exiting from the Flag Room to the new deck. Howard, we are truly grateful for this support. This will be an addition that will enhance greatly the aesthetics of the Club. Howard also hosted our annual Crab Crack at his lovely waterfront home located on the Wappoo Cut on Sunday, September 3rd.  What a grand time was had by all. Thanks again Howard for stepping up, as you always have, for the Charleston Yacht Club.

The Executive Committee will be looking at other improvements to the outside and inside of our Club that will enhance its appearance and make our facility more functional. We are reviewing our budget and will make some decisions at our October meeting as to what we can accomplish during the balance of 2017 to improve your membership experience. Please try to make the meeting on Tuesday the 17th.

The Nominating Committee submitted their slate for 2018 at our September meeting and I want to thank all those nominated for being willing to serve. I know all the nominees personally and they are a talented group that will add enormously to the club as they direct us in 2018. Please set aside January 20th to attend the Installation Dinner, and of course “THE PARTY,” for the incoming board. I promise it will be the happening of the century!!

We discussed a non-member revenue issue at our September meeting and received some valuable input from members as to how the Executive Committee can work with a new procedure for accepting rental revenue from non-members. I feel sure we can conclude this project in time to deal with it at the Annual Meeting in November. Member participation is an invaluable tool, and we appreciate all who provided information to help us work through this.

Thanks for listening, and feel free to contact me should you have any questions or concerns. You can reach me at commodore@nullcharlestonyachtclub.com.
